My team is "Whichever One Fits." Thank you for your support.
This is another "Straight out of Context" episode. This week we discuss Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." I think every young Christian has taken encouragement in this verse and thought "when I sit down and pray or read my Bible with another person, God is present." Surely you have heard this verse read in a worship service before. Is this the context of the verse? When you begin to read it, start in verse 15, and read it in the context in which Jesus spoke. Something you will notice, Jesus says "If your brother or sisters sins..." This does not seem like he is discussing worship or your Bible Study.
Like most verses though, taking it in the context in which it is written is much more powerful. We as brothers and sisters need to have an authority and accountability in our lives. True love of a friend is giving that friend the ability to hold you accountable for your actions. We also need to give authority to our local church to hold us accountable, and when we step in sin, the church needs authority in correcting us. In the context of this verse we see the process of dealing with a brother or sister that has stepped into sin and how to handle the situation in a loving way.

Friday Preview, on Monday show we will discuss Matthew 18:20
Pornography has become a multi-billion dollar industry. The number of people who admit to watching porn goes up each year. This is a sin that has become very widespread. It a sin that destroys those who view it, slowly but surely. In this episode the guys bring back Pastor Chris of Denver Baptist Church to help us find a way to defeat this horrific sin.
They say that pornography is the most addictive sin; more addictive than drugs. That does not mean that is impossible to beat. The trick is find what we love more. That should be Jesus, because he has a surpassing love for us. When someone turns to him, he will help those who struggle in this sin.

In this episode we discuss the upcoming show that is coming out Monday the 22nd.
In today's society we have a warped sense of sex. It is not something new. It actually started after the fall. When sin entered the world, the human's view of sex fell with it. How are we, as Christians, supposed to view sex? For most, it was taught in churches that it is some forbidden thing that should never be discussed, but in the world it is everywhere we look. There is not a commercial you can see or hear that doesn't have some sexuality to it. It is everywhere we look. We live in a hyper sexual culture. In this episode Pastor Chris stops by and helps the Laymen discover the proper view of sex.

In today's Friday preview we have the "evangellyfish" moment of the week. We also discuss out upcoming episode on sex.
Proverbs 22:6 says "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." We have all seen or heard of kids raised in the church and when they went out into the world they departed from everything they learned. What happened? Did the parents sin? Did they fail as a Christian parents? Hasn't the Bible promised this wouldn't happen? This is why it is important to not only get this verse right, but also have a correct understanding of the book of Proverbs. In this episode we discuss this verse and the ways we discipline and train our children.
The Laymen would like to say Congratulations to Deathwish Coffee. They won a small business contest and had a thirty second commercial during the Super Bowl. If you haven't tried their coffee yet, do yourself a favor and go get some. You will not be disappointed.

Our Friday show gives us a chance to discuss our upcoming episode and what is going on currently during the week. On Monday the show is on Proverbs 22:6, and during the Friday Preview we discuss the Carolina Panthers.
We had another Laymen’s Cup road trip this week leading to a candid interview with Dr. Danny Akin, the President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Akin has been president of SEBTS since 2004. He has been married to his bride, Charlotte, for 37 years, and they have raised four boys. Dr. Akin has authored numerous books including God on Sex: The Creator’s Ideas about Love, Intimacy and Marriage. He is also editor of the Christ-Centered Exposition Series. This is a great series for anyone who wants to learn more about the Bible.
When we sat down with Dr. Akin we had one question; “What does it mean when we say ‘Biblical Marriage?'” From there, the conversation had a life of its own. We discussed the Bible’s expectations for husbands, arguing with your spouse, how to raise children in the light of Scripture, and many other topics on marriage. It is an hour well spent with a godly man who was a great encouragement to us, and hopefully to you as well.

January 22nd was the anniversary of the Roe v Wade court decision. This was the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion throughout the United States. For this episode we brought in Pastor Bobby Wilkerson of Church at Denver. Pastor Bobby has taken a strong stance against abortion. Every year on the anniversary of the case he participates in a memorial service called March for Life. You can find out more here, March For Life. The March for life is put on by "Right for Life." It is an organization whose sole purpose is to education people on abortion, infanticide and euthanasia. Every Christian should take a stance against abortion, Right for Life is one of the organizations that takes this stance.
Pastor Bobby is passionate about children, he has seven of them. He is Worship Pastor at Church of Denver. You can learn more here, http://churchatdenver.org. We have a great conversation, in the second half of the show, about the analogy of a "full quiver of arrows" and the theology of children. He and his wife homeschool their children, and he really makes you think about the proper way to view family planning.

We are excited about Monday's episode, we have a special guest. Pastor Bobby Wilkerson of Church of Denver. He discusses the anniversary of Roe v Wade.
In this preview we discuss an interview with TD Jakes. In this interview he discuss how the "Black church" are to deal with the LGBT community. You can hear the interview, follow the link below.
At the start of every new year, almost every person made a resolution, whether it was to lose weight, go to church more, or be a nicer person. Why do we make resolutions? It because we know in our heart that we need to change. The simple fact is though, by the 15th of January, 30% of resolutions made are broken. If you are a regular gym member this becomes a visual fact. The first week of the year you can barely find a parking spot. The second week, there are a few open spots, and by the middle of the month you have no problems at all finding a space.
Why are so many resolutions not kept? Why is it so hard to change? It is because people attempt to change on their own. We make a promise to ourselves that this year will be different, this year I will be a better person. The simple fact is, that without the proper tools, we can never change on our own, we will always struggle with our old self.
I want to mention a resource Patrick mentions in the show. If you have had made a resolution to read the Bible more, Denver Baptist Church puts out an incredible reading plan. We are reading through the letters of Paul. Follow the link, DBC Bible Reading Plan to follow along.

In this Friday preview we discuss the upcoming show on Resolutions.
In today's episode we are continuing to discuss the doctrine of election, a conversation that we started with our good friend, John. In this is part of the conversation we begin to break down the difference between Arminianism and Calvinism. We have found that there are many people who camp on either side of the argument, but do they truly know the difference? For instance, can you truly say you are a Calvinist if you do not know what Arminius wrote, and how can you be an Arminian if you do not know what Calvin wrote?
We have spent a lot of time on this topic. Even though it is a open handed issue, we feel it is an important one. We have received a lot of engagement from our listeners on these shows. That is what we love. We love to hear from our listeners, even if you do not agree with us.

In this preview we catch the listeners up on the second part of a discussion we have about Arminianism vs Calvinism. We also start a discussion on infant Baptism.
C.S. Lewis said in Mere Christianity "Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having." Great theologians like John Piper and Tim Keller would say that we do not have free will. Who is right? There are great Godly men on both sides of the topic. This is the question that fueled this episode.
In this episode we have a special guest. We welcome an honorary Laymen, John. John recently graduated law school, and is now studying to sit for the Bar Exam in February. After episode 25 came out, John quickly texted the Laymen with questions and comments about the doctrine of election. Since Wes had to travel for his job this week, we thought it would be great to bring John on and have him be a part of the discussion on Calvinism. Being a trained lawyer, John did an amazing job challenging us and driving everyone of us to the Scripture.
