Do we have free will? Free will is the ability to make decisions on our own. The opposite of free will is the providence of God. Providence says that God has control over every aspect of life. A speck of dust does not move without the hand of God controlling it. These two seem to be at odds with one another. So which is true, do we have free will, or does God control everything?

On today's show we went back the classic. We drank Peet's Major Dickson. If you like good, dark coffee, you can't beat it, and the plus is that you can go to any big box store and find it. We've been drinking some light stuff lately, we wanted to get back to the dark roast. It did not disappoint.
As you have heard already, we are hosting a charity golf tournament. On July 30th we will have the first annual Laymen’s Cup Golf Tournament. It will be at Glenn Oaks Golf Club in Maiden, NC. Please come out and play. All proceeds will go to support Christian Family Services and Shaun’s adoption.
It is always our hope to get the Gospel out to as many people as possible, and you can help us by sharing the show. Word of mouth is the greatest way we will get the show out to the masses. Thank you.

There has been many episode we do that have encourage us, this one will stick out as one of my favorites. We dove into scripture and searched out the truth, and founded. In this preview we discuss about the episode that comes out Friday.
As Christians, how are we supposed to engage with people on social media? The vast majority of us are on social media. If you are on social media for just a little bit you will find a people who disagree with your worldview. Should we debate them on that platform? This the question that we discuss in this episode.
Another question raised is, can you convince someone they are wrong when you debate them on Facebook or Twitter? There are always going to be trolls. Trolls are people who are intolerant and seek out to belittle people of different viewpoints. It is alway hard to debate with those guys because they are not there to listen, they are there to insult. But when faced with trolls, remember, we are to represent Christ in all we do, even on social media.

There is a problem of evil. The idea of the problem of evil goes like this, if God is all loving, and all powerful, but allows evil to happen, then is he truly all loving and all powerful? The is the oldest atheist argument. Many atheists use this argument to prove that God does not exist. The problem, though, is not with evil, it is our idea of evil. People are convinced that evil is something. In fact, it isn't something that can be grasped, instead it is a lack of something.
In this episode, the laymen had a great time breaking down the definition of evil and the proper view of it. How do we as Christians justify evil in the world? All these question can be explained through a proper understand of evil and bringing it to light in the Bible.

The Laymen have a special announcement for an upcoming event. Come join us on July 30th.
The Laymen this week started to discuss a book called “The 12 What Abouts: Answering Common Objectives God’s Sovereignty and Election.” In this book the author, John Samson, breaks down twelve questions people have about election and the Sovereignty of God. You can find this book in our book store, just follow the link in the menu.
2nd Peter 3:9 says “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” Does the verse prove election is not true? Well, of course not, but what is the proper understanding of this verse? In today’s show we discuss what is the author of this book says about this verse, and if he is right or not.

A short Friday preview discussing Monday's show on 2nd Peter 3:9, also a little hint of whats to come.
Homeschool verses Public School? Which one should you choose? In this episode the Laymen discuss why they chose the education they do for their children. For Patrick, he chose homeschooling, Shaun and Kemp chose public school, and for Wes, it still up in the air. The guys had a good time discussing which ones they choose and why. One area the agreed on is that there is no wrong answer. Patrick doesn't think Shaun is a bad father for choosing public school, and Shaun doesn't think Patrick is a fanatic for choosing homeschooling. The right decision is the one that you make for your family.
We also would like to shout out to Mothers. We spent sometime in this episode talking to one of the Mom's of the Laymen. Happy Mother's day to all of the Moms out there. Thank you for all the work you do.

Discipling children is the most important task a parent can do. We are called and equipped to raise our children in Christ. With some parents today they leave that responsibility to the church. "That is the job children's pastor, or the youth pastor" is their mindset. The Laymen believe it is our responsiblity as parents to disciple our children in Christ. For this episode we brought in a special guest. Pastor Jeff is the children's pastor of Denver Baptist church. He helped us discuss this issue in depth.

The Laymen believe that we are to live our lives on mission. What that means it that in everything we do, we glorify Christ, and portray the Gospel. When we are at work, we live the Gospel. When we are with our friends, we live the Gospel. On today’s episode we have the great privilege of sitting down and hearing the testimony of one of the most Gospel centered ladies we have ever talked with.
Ms. Diane Smith gave up everything to live on mission for God. She was saved at an older age, and soon after that God started to put a burden on her heart to sell everything for Him, and after some persuasion, she sold everything to go and live on the mission field in Alabama.
One part of living on mission is that Ms. Diane must raise her own support. Everything that she raises goes to support her living expenses and her work with the people in Alabama. Please pray, and if you are able to give your support, please do. If you would like to support for Ms. Diane, please go and check out her website. http://msc.kintera.org/dianesmith. Our great state of North Carolina has been under attack recently. Ever since the state pasted what is now know as HB2, or House Bill 2, many have labeled NC as a bigot state that is prejudiced against the LGBT community. There are many who are upset because Bruce Springsteen decided to cancel a show scheduled in North Carolina. Even broadway shows have decided not to come to North Carolina because of this bill. What is the true meaning of the bill? In this show we respond to our democrat brothers, then find the true meaning behind this bill that is causing such in uproar in our beloved state.
The Laymen are involved in a fundraiser this week. We are going to a dinner on April 21st for the Pregnancy Care Center. If you would be willing to help us raise money, you can go to our support page and hit the donate button. Anything that is given to the show this week will go to support the PCC.

In this episode we had the great privilege of interviewing Dr. Frank Turek on how to engage our culture. Dr. Turek is a world renown Christian Apologist. He has authored and co-authored four books including Stealing from God: Why Atheists Need God to make their Case, I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist, Correct, Not Politically Correct and Legislating Morality. He is president of Cross Examined, an organization that goes to different college campuses and churches to give presentations on the existence of God. You can learn more at crossexamined.org.
We asked Dr. Turek about several topics, including North Carolina's HB2 case, evolution, and how to address our culture. Dr. Turek is what is known as an Evidential Apologist. He seeks out to prove the existence of God. He mentions on the show that you can believe in God without knowing the Bible. He seeks to get people to believe there is a God first, and then teaching them the evidence for Christ. If you haven't had a chance yet, make sure you get some of his books.

On Monday, we are very excited about a special guest. Dr. Frank Turek. Also, Kemp says why he giving up on the idea that all sins are the same.
There are so many times we make plans and then they just do not happen. For instance, this week we planned for a few guest to show up and, well, they did not come. What do we do when a curve ball is thrown; we knock it out of the park! We do what laymen do; we discussed different theological topics and had a great time!
One question that was asked was why pray for the lost? If we believe in unconditional election, do our prayers effect salvation? Here is one item in this discussion is that we do believe; that we are to pray for the lost. Paul tells us in Romans to do so, the discussion is what good do our prayers have?

On today's episode we had the privilege to sit down and talk with two Godly men and discuss politics. What brought these two men to the Cup, is that they vote democrat. It was interesting to sit down and have a true discussion about the differences and similarities between the Republican and Democratic parties.
Every time you turn on CNN or Fox News all you hear are the parties fighting over what seems like an insignificant maters. How many times have you heard civil conversations between the two different parties? Listen, and learn, and hopefully you will know what you believe politically and why.

Does Theology Matter? Why should the layperson care about theology? To help answer these questions we brought in a local Pastor, Morrie Lawing, from Christ Church. He is a leader in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian denomination.
Theology is the understanding of God. In a sense, everyone has a theology. For most, as long as the pastor knows theology that is good enough for them, but is that enough? It is important for every Christian to have a knowledge of theology. We are told by the Apostle Paul to stop drinking milk, and start on solid foods. He is saying that we should dig deeper into the Scriptures, and the more we dig in, the more we will understand theology.

On today's show we drank a cup of special coffee. I (Shaun) met the owner of this coffee company while in school at SEBTS. He and his wife lived in Uganda, and when they came back to the states they started Mukwano Coffee to support the people they lived with. We tried the Burundi coffee. It was a medium roast and went down smooth. Also, I promise, Matt, I will learn how to say it.

On this Friday we preview we discuss the upcoming episode on why theology matters. Don't miss out on the riddle that stump Kemp and Shaun.
"Living on mission" is a phrase Christians hear a lot. For most, it is what Missionaries, or pastors, or Church Planters do. In actuality, it is a calling for all Christians. In Matthew 28, Jesus tells us his last command, "Go, into the world, and make disciples." We believe that this is a calling for all Christians. The issue, how do we do that? How do we, Laymen, who work 60 hours a week, who have families, who are caught up in the business of life, live a life of mission?
This is a big question and to help us we brought in a friend of the show, Pastor Ken Furches. He is the Community Pastor at Denver Baptist. Pastor Ken tells us how to live the life we are called to, in ways that only he can.

On this Friday Preview we discuss out up coming episode on Living on Mission, also we address a comment about accountability.
What do you do when your guest does not show up? Well, you wing it. That is what we did on today’s episode. Make no mistake, this is a great show. On today’s show Kemp brought his wife and daughter by. This led to a discussion on equality and to the question of whether or not woman should be serve in combat, which lead to whether or not women should serve as a Pastor. If you say no, then what is the difference between a woman being a Missionary and a Pastor?
