Laymen's Cup Podcast

The Laymen are four men, who love God first, then their wives and children. We have a deep desire to study God’s Word and to live on mission for him. As we study God’s Word, we love to break it down and discuss it in a way that everyone can understand. We are not scholars, even though some of us wish we were. We are normal men with normal jobs trying to figure out how to Glorify God and live a life on mission for him.

Do Denominations matter? The four of us are Southern Baptist, we attend a SBC church and support SBC missions, but does it matter. The main question we ask is, do denominations bring unity or division? It is easy to see from the outside that Christians obviously can't get stuff together because none of them can agree. In any given street in a small town, you will see a Methodist church, a Baptist church, Presbyterian Church, etc, etc. Do these churches work together in providing unity, or do they exist to provide division amongst the body of Christ.

We had he privilege of having Black Rifle Coffee Company. Do yourself a favor and click the link and go buy some coffee. They are a small batch roasting company that is owned by veterans. What that means is that when you buy the coffee, they roast it and then ship it. They also support the Wounded Warriors Project.

As you have heard already, we are hosting a charity golf tournament. On July 30th we will have the first annual Laymen’s Cup Golf Tournament. It will be at Glenn Oaks Golf Club in Maiden, NC. Please come out and play. All proceeds will go to support Christian Family Services and Shaun’s adoption.

It is always our hope to get the Gospel out to as many people as possible and you can help us by sharing the show. Word of mouth is the greatest way we will get the show out to the masses. Thank you.

Please pray for us, as we are praying for you.

The Laymen,

Kemp, Patrick, Shaun, and Wes.

This ended up being a great episode because we did what we alway do, we discussed why theology matters. In this discussion we began to reflect on Genesis. A question asked was "were Adam and Eve the only people created, or were there others?" There are two main views on this. One is that Adam and Eve were the only ones created, and every other human came from them. The second view is that God created other people. When we get a view outside of the garden, we notice in Genesis that other people are there. Where did they come from? Are they all Eve's children?

On today's show we are drinking coffee from a gift club called Amazon Clubs. Kemp’s wife got him a three month gift of coffee from there. It was a good smooth coffee.

Who will endure to the end? In this episode we discuss the call from God and what that means. Every time we share the Gospel with someone there is a call.  Does that call determine the elect? There is also an effectual call, that is when the elect realize the Gospel and respond to it. Are both calls them same?  Can people be in the fold of Christ and not be in the elect?

These are some tough questions and we went off the cuff in this episode and tried to answer some of them. We spend time in the in Bible and discussing John 15, and sought to determine the different calls. One thing we know for sure is that the Bible tells us that those who endure to the end will be saved.

We had a special guest on the show as well. Drew Meyer is going to serve CRU as a campus pastor. If you are willing to help him out, contact him at drew.meyer@cru.org.

On today’s show we went back the classic. We drank Peet’s Major Dickson. If you like good, dark coffee, you can’t beat it, and the plus is that you can go to any big box store and find it. We’ve been drinking some light stuff lately, we wanted to get back to the dark roast. It did not disappoint.

Do we have free will? Free will is the ability to make decisions on our own. The opposite of free will is the providence of God. Providence says that God has control over every aspect of life. A speck of dust does not move without the hand of God controlling it. These two seem to be at odds with one another. So which is true, do we have free will, or does God control everything?
