Laymen's Cup Podcast

The Laymen are four men, who love God first, then their wives and children. We have a deep desire to study God’s Word and to live on mission for him. As we study God’s Word, we love to break it down and discuss it in a way that everyone can understand. We are not scholars, even though some of us wish we were. We are normal men with normal jobs trying to figure out how to Glorify God and live a life on mission for him.

On today's episode we had the privilege to sit down and talk with two Godly men and discuss politics. What brought these two men to the Cup, is that they vote democrat. It was interesting to sit down and have a true discussion about the differences and similarities between the Republican and Democratic parties.

Every time you turn on CNN or Fox News all you hear are the parties fighting over what seems like an insignificant maters. How many times have you heard civil conversations between the two different parties? Listen, and learn, and hopefully you will know what you believe politically and why.

Thank you for listening. If you are listening on iTunes please subscribe and leave a review. If you have comments or questions for us, you can email us at laymenscup@gmail.com. Tonight we sipped on Pete's Major Dickson. It has become a go to coffee. If you have any suggestions on different coffees for us to try please email the show. We enjoy trying all different types of coffee. Also, if you own a shop, we would love to try your coffee and rate it on the show.

Shaun is running a race to help raise money for his adoption. If you like to join his team, or learn more about it. Check it out here. Chosen Carolinas Team Whicheveronefits.

Lastly, we want to say Happy Easter! We truly serve a Risen Savior in Jesus Christ!

It is always our hope to get the Gospel out to as many people as possible and you can help us by sharing the show. Word of mouth is the greatest way we will get the show out to the masses. Thank you.

Please pray for us, as we are praying for you.

Does Theology Matter? Why should the layperson care about theology? To help answer these questions we brought in a local Pastor, Morrie Lawing, from Christ Church. He is a leader in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian denomination.

Theology is the understanding of God. In a sense, everyone has a theology. For most, as long as the pastor knows theology that is good enough for them, but is that enough? It is important for every Christian to have a knowledge of theology. We are told by the Apostle Paul to stop drinking milk, and start on solid foods. He is saying that we should dig deeper into the Scriptures, and the more we dig in, the more we will understand theology.

On today's show we drank a cup of special coffee. I (Shaun) met the owner of this coffee company while in school at SEBTS. He and his wife lived in Uganda, and when they came back to the states they started Mukwano Coffee to support the people they lived with. We tried the Burundi coffee. It was a medium roast and went down smooth. Also, I promise, Matt, I will learn how to say it.

"Living on mission" is a phrase Christians hear a lot. For most, it is what Missionaries, or pastors, or Church Planters do. In actuality, it is a calling for all Christians. In Matthew 28, Jesus tells us his last command, "Go, into the world, and make disciples." We believe that this is a calling for all Christians. The issue, how do we do that? How do we, Laymen, who work 60 hours a week, who have families, who are caught up in the business of life, live a life of mission?

This is a big question and to help us we brought in a friend of the show, Pastor Ken Furches. He is the Community Pastor at Denver Baptist. Pastor Ken tells us how to live the life we are called to, in ways that only he can.

What do you do when your guest does not show up? Well, you wing it. That is what we did on today’s episode. Make no mistake, this is a great show. On today’s show Kemp brought his wife and daughter by. This led to a discussion on equality and to the question of whether or not woman should be serve in combat, which lead to whether or not women should serve as a Pastor. If you say no, then what is the difference between a woman being a Missionary and a Pastor?

If you want to support the show, there are several ways to do it. First, and most importantly, please pray for us. Pray that God continues to lead us, and that he continues to use the show. If you want to support the show in other ways, you can go to our support page to learn how.
