At the start of every new year, almost every person made a resolution, whether it was to lose weight, go to church more, or be a nicer person. Why do we make resolutions? It because we know in our heart that we need to change. The simple fact is though, by the 15th of January, 30% of resolutions made are broken. If you are a regular gym member this becomes a visual fact. The first week of the year you can barely find a parking spot. The second week, there are a few open spots, and by the middle of the month you have no problems at all finding a space.
Why are so many resolutions not kept? Why is it so hard to change? It is because people attempt to change on their own. We make a promise to ourselves that this year will be different, this year I will be a better person. The simple fact is, that without the proper tools, we can never change on our own, we will always struggle with our old self.
I want to mention a resource Patrick mentions in the show. If you have had made a resolution to read the Bible more, Denver Baptist Church puts out an incredible reading plan. We are reading through the letters of Paul. Follow the link, DBC Bible Reading Plan to follow along.
