Laymen's Cup Podcast

The Laymen are four men, who love God first, then their wives and children. We have a deep desire to study God’s Word and to live on mission for him. As we study God’s Word, we love to break it down and discuss it in a way that everyone can understand. We are not scholars, even though some of us wish we were. We are normal men with normal jobs trying to figure out how to Glorify God and live a life on mission for him.

In this week's show, we discuss the situation of Colin Kaepernick in the NFL. Last year he protested for the BLM movement by kneeling during the National Anthem, and now he is without a job. The question raised is, is he being blackballed? Meaning, are the owners purposely keeping him out of the league?

In the second part of the show, we introduced a new segment that seemed to take on a life of its own. We examine a speech from T.D. Jakes, the great bishop. This might be fun.

On the show, we sipped on Death Wish Nitro Brew coffee. This was a cold brew in a can. It is extremely strong but very good. Bob's reaction was worth a listen.

We have doubled in size in the Berean Media Network. The network now consists of us, The Two Thieves, The Front Pew, and Rebel Alliance Podcast. Go check these guys out, we will have more information on the BMN website soon.

We talk all the time about our conversations backstage. For the first time, we are making those conversations available to you. For just a dollar a month, you can hear what goes on, and hear us go off the cuff. Visit us at Patreon.com/laymenscup

We had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Walter Strickland II. Dr. Strickland is a professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and newly elected Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention. He leads the Kingdom Diversity Initiative at the school, where the goal is to have the school look more like the Kingdom of Heaven.  What that means is to be diverse as possible.

The SBC has been in the news recently. At the convention in Phoenix, there was confusion over a motion to take a stand against the Alt-White movement. Dr. Strickland talked to us about what really happened. We also discussed how we can change the image of the SBC and address the issue of diversity to look more like Heaven.

The guys took a night off to reflect on some recent experiences. Over the last few months, they guys had a chance to walk through preparing and delivering a Sermon. Chris, from the Front Pew, mentored Kemp, Wes, and our buddy Patrick on how to write and preach a sermon. We are guys who truly want to share the Gospel with people, and being able to do it in this capacity is an awesome opportunity.

This week we sipped on some cold brew from Cabellas Coffee Shop.  http://cabbellascoffeeshop.com. If you are around Denver, NC, go check them out, if not, definitely go check out their website.

We made a big announcement this week. We have doubled in size on the Berean Media Network. The network now consists of us, The Two Thieves, The Front Pew, and Rebel Alliance Podcast. Go check these guys out, we will have more information on the BMN website soon.

This week we have two special guests. Bobby is music minister at Church at Denver, and Kerri who is Worship Leader at our own church, Denver Baptist Church. In this show, we discuss what it means to worship God, and ask the question, how does a music minister prepare for Sunday morning? We also ask the question, what style of music should you use during worship, or does it matter at all?

On this show, we got to sip on coffee from the Anchor Coffee Co, out of North Wilkesboro, NC. This week we sent it through a drip machine, it was good and bold. This is the type of coffee we love to drink black. Make sure to check them out at http://anchorcoffeeco.com.

As Laymen, we believe that we are to live on mission. That means we are to be intentional in sharing our faith. Whenever we get a chance to meet a missionary doing that same thing day and day out, we love to talk to them.  This week, we had a chance to sit down with Sean Mullins, a missionary with Samaria Missions serving in South Africa. It was a great privilege to hear how he is bringing the Gospel and building Churches.

If you want to get a hold of Sean, you can email him at sean@samrianmission.co.za. You can follow him on Facebook at facebook.com/samrianmissions and his website at http://samerianmissions.co.za.

Keep an eye out for the Berean Media Network, we have some news coming soon. Also, shout out to our brothers over at Two Thieves, I bet they won't be calling Kemp out anymore.

On this show, we finish our series on the 10 Commandments by wrapping up the 9th and 10th Commandments. In these Commandments, we are told to not bear false witness and to not covet. What do these two mean, and how do they fall into the rest of the law?

On this show, we got to sip on coffee from the Anchor Coffee Co, out of North Wilkesboro, NC. It was great coffee, we turned it into cold brew...and it was worth it.

The sixth commandment is "You shall not murder." Exodus 20:13. This seems like a simple commandment. As long as we don't kill someone we are good, right? What does the Bible mean by murder? What if there is an accident, and someone loses their life? Also, how do we view this rightly in light of the Sermon on the Mount?

Today we sipped on Mad Priest Coffee out of Chatanooga, TN. (Random Tennessee fact) Check them out at madpriestcoffee.com

Today we are celebrating our 100th episode. Believe it or not, it's been two years since we sat down and said we wanted to record our conversations and put them out for people to hear. This show has been a blessing to us and we hope it's been a blessing to our listeners. In this show, we reflect on the fun we've had, and some of the tough times, too. It is a blessing to sit in front of these mics every week and seek the truth one sip at a time.

Today we sipped on a Haitian coffee brought to us from a listen who went to Hati on a mission trip. Kemp started a cold brew on Sunday, and on Wednesday, it was great.

Along with every other commandment, the Fifth Commandment is not an easy one to follow. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." Exodus 20:12. Two things jump off the page with this Commandment. First, this is starting to point horizontally to our relationship with other people. Secondly, this is the only commandment with a promise. That promise is that if we follow the Commandment, our days will be long.

The main contention in our conversation this week; is honoring and obeying the same thing? Do you have to obey your parents to honor them, and if so, what does that mean for people who have a strained relationship with their parents?

Today we sipped on a Haitian coffee brought to us from a listen who when to Hati on a mission trip. Kemp started a cold brew on Sunday, and on Wednesday, it was great.
