Laymen's Cup Podcast

The Laymen are four men, who love God first, then their wives and children. We have a deep desire to study God’s Word and to live on mission for him. As we study God’s Word, we love to break it down and discuss it in a way that everyone can understand. We are not scholars, even though some of us wish we were. We are normal men with normal jobs trying to figure out how to Glorify God and live a life on mission for him.

In today's episode, we wanted to continue a series we started previously. We started reviewing the most misquoted Bible verses. These verses are commonly used in the culture today, but in most cases they are taken out of context. In the first episode in this series we went over Philippians 4:13. Today we discussed Jeremiah 29:11. If you walk into any Christian Book store will see "I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you." It is printed on t-shirts and inspirational posters, and it is meant to be an encouragement to people. The question we ask is: what is God really saying in this verse?

With any verse you read, you must keep in mind the context that it is written in. Jeremiah is writing about a prophesy that God shared with him. This prophesy is foretelling the judgment of God concerning Israel and their disobedience. After discussing this verse, we came to the conclusion that when put in the correct context, this verse is more encouraging than the misinterpretation that is used today.

We want to say thank you for listening. It is a real encouragement to us to hear how God is using the show. If you would like to email the show and let us know how God is moving in your life you can email us at laymenscup@gmail.com.

The Laymen are also on all the social media sites. Our handle on twitter and Instagram is @laymensup. We are on Facebook as well at Facebook.com/Laymenscup.
